Description: Tsunamis are a threat to life and property for all people that live, work and play near the New Zealand coast. Evacuation planning is a fundamental component of emergency planning for tsunami. If residents of coastal communities feel a long or strong earthquake, and they are in a tsunami evacuation zone, immediately evacuate. The safe locations have been defined in conjunction with the coastal communities and the area Emergency Management Officer (EMO) and this allows communities to plan evacuation route and safe location now. Remember walking/running or biking might be better than driving, as roads may be damaged in the earthquake. Refer also to Tsunami Evacuation Zones Map & Report.
